Taylor Brown (Winthrop, Mass.) potted her second power play goal in as many games as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team fell to Stevenson 7-2 Friday evening at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
The Bison defeated the Mustangs in their first game of the season 2-0 during the Plymouth State Tournament, however, the Mustangs rattled off four unanswered goals in the first two periods to secure the victory on Friday.
Junior Erin McLoughlin (Weston, Mass.) and freshman Monica Pozuc (Kent, Ohio) each produced a goal and two assists while junior Katie Abbott (Royal Oak, Mich.) and freshman Chelsea Blackburn (Westland, Mich.) both potted a pair of goals as Stevenson improves to 4-2-0 on the season.
Nichols (4-6-0) did not get on the board until 7:56 of the third period when freshman
Laura Christie (Hudson, Mass.) picked up the first point of her collegiate career when she beat junior goaltender Anastassia Nelson (San Antonio, Texas) for the goal. Senior captain
Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) was credited with the assist on the play.
The Bison fell behind 7-1 in the third period until Brown potted the fourth goal of her career at 18:09. Senior
Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) earned the assist on the goal.
Murphy paced the Bison with six shots while Bufis and Brown chipped in five. The Mustangs outshot the Bison 34-30 and were led by Blackburn with seven.
Senior
Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) falls to 3-5-0 on the season after stopping 27 pucks. Nelson – who took the loss in the first matchup against the Bison this season – improves to 2-1-0 after making a season-high 28 saves.
The Bison and Mustangs square off once more on Saturday for the season's rubber-match beginning at noon at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
