Nichols defeated by Salve Regina, 3-1

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Senior Lindsey Rappazzo (Mashpee, Mass.) scored for Nichols College, which suffered a 3-1 setback at Salve Regina University Sunday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Gaudet Field.

The Seahawks (9-3, 3-3 CCC) opened the scoring on a penalty stroke goal from Abigal Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) at 10:25. They doubled their lead 16 minutes into the second half on a goal by Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.).

Ten minutes later, Rappazzo's third marker of the season cut the Bison deficit in half. Salve Regina regained a two-goal cushion at 69:29 when Tepper fed Alexisse Clinger (Nantucket, Mass.) for the Seahawks third goal of the evening.

Freshman Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) stopped one shot for Nichols. before being replaced by senior Molly Melanson (Simsbury, Conn.), who finished with eight saves. Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) was credited with four saves in the win. Salve Regina outshot the Bison 19-7.

Nichols plays at WPI Thursday at 4 p.m. while the Seahawks play at Wheelock Thursday at 8 p.m.
