Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Seniors
Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) and
Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) scored first-period goals to propel the Nichols College women's ice hockey team to a 2-0 win over Stevenson in the season-opener for both schools Friday afternoon at the PSU Tournament, hosted by Plymouth State.
Murphy also added an assist while senior netminder
Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) stopped all 36 shots she faced to earn her second-career shutout. The Bison have won their season opener in two of the last three seasons and are 2-1-1 in their last four.
Murphy got the Bison on the board at 7:19 when she tallied her 38th career goal. Bufis doubled the Nichols lead less than seven minutes later when she scored off a pass from Murphy at 13:47.
Gianformaggio did the rest, making 26 saves over the final 40:00 of action to perserve the win. Anastasia Nelson recorded 19 saves for Stevenson (0-1-0).
Freshman
Laura Christie (Hudson, Mass.) led the Bison with four shots while Murphy and classmate
Jordan Fencl (Amana, Iowa) each got off three.
The Bison (1-0-0) face Buffalo State tomorrow at noon. Stevenson plays Plymouth State tomorrow at 3 p.m.
