Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Kaylee McNamara (Watertown, Mass.) scored a pair of goals in Nichols College's 7-5 loss at Western New England Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Senior Nicole Simeone (Ashland, Mass.) added a goal and two assists while seniors Jenn Townsend (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Rachel Dalrymple (Belvidere, N.J.) also scored for the Bison, who were outshot 30-19.

Sophomore Hillary Naranjo-Mejia (Lowell, Mass.) scored three goals for the Golden Bears (6-11, 3-7 CCC), who also received two goals from senior Megan French (Nelson, N.H.) and a goal and an assist from freshman Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.).

WNE led 2-0 behind goals from Naranjo-Mejia and freshman Allison Jackson (Mahopac, N.Y.) and 11:12 and 23:50, respectively. Nichols rallied to tie the game at two on Dalrymple's third of the year at 24:42 and Simeone's second at 26:42. The Golden Bears held a 17-7 edge in shots at the break and a 15-2 advantage in penalty corners.

The Golden Bears struck for three goals in the opening 13:42 of the second half to move ahead 5-2 as Naranjo-Mejia, French, and DeLima all got shots past senior goalie Emily Mercure (Milton, Vt.). Once again, the Bison responded, the time by ripping off three-straight goals in a span of 14:55 to pull even. McNamara's sixth and seventh goals of 2014 at 49:00 and 55:53, respectively, brought the visitors to within one before Townsend's fourth at 63:55 knotted the game at five.

Less than a minute later, Naranjo-Mejia picked up the hat trick when she converted a pass from freshman Michelle Carlson (Hackettstown, N.J.) into her sixth goal of the season. French converted the Golden Bears' second penalty stroke of the afternoon at 66:08 to close the scoring.

Western New England received 21 penalty corners, compared to four for Nichols.

Nichols (3-13, 1-9 CCC) travels to Endicott Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest. Western New England hosts Gordon Wednesday at 7 p.m.
