Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior
Jenn Townsend (Wethersfield, Conn.) her second goal of the season in Nichols College's 3-1 loss to Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Wednesday night at a rainy Vendetti Field.
Senior Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine) scored a pair of first-half goals as the Gulls improved to 10-1 on the season (5-0 CCC). The visitors outshot the Bison 27-10 – including 14-5 in the second half. Sophomore
Katherine Cotton (Kennebunk, Maine) recorded 11 saves for Nichols – including several key saves in the second half to keep the Bison within striking distance.
Sawchuck opened the scoring at 12:48 when she lifted a shot high into the net off a feed from classmate Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.). Less than six minutes later, Linden's unassisted marker – a blast from 15 yards out – doubled the Endicott lead. Sawchuck's potted her second of the season on a shot from the right side to close the first half scoring at 32:37. Freshman Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) picked up the assist on the play.
Townsend scored the only goal of the second half off a play which she began with a penalty corner. She fed the ball to senior
Nicole Simeone (Sandwich, Mass.) at the top of the circle, and Simeone returned the ball to Townsend, who one-timed a shot past sophomore keeper Francheska Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.).
Juniors
Victoria Utter (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and
Meghan Dombkowski (Sagaponack, N.Y.), along with sophomore
Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.), each registered a defensive save for Nichols.
Ventura finished her night with shots to improve to 6-1 on the season.
The Bison (2-8, 0-5 CCC) return to action on Saturday with a 6 p.m. contest at Salve Regina. Endicott plays at Gordon Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
