Bison blanked at Skidmore, 2-0

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Nichols College men's ice hockey team opened the new year with a 2-0 loss at Skidmore in non-conference action Friday night at Saratoga City Rink.

Sophomore Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) made 26 saves for the Bison, who slipped to 7-2-2 on the season. They play at Castleton Saturday night at 5 p.m.

Jack McDonald stopped all 31 shots he faced en route to his first career shutout for the Thoroughbreds (4-4-4). He turned away nine shots in the first period, 10 in the second and 12 in the third, earning his fourth win of the season.
 
Aaron Beck tallied his team-high ninth goal of the season and freshman forward Marc Cibelli potted his first career goal in the win. Ondrei Krainak, Tony Giacin, Anthony Bird, and Tim Colvin each recorded assists for Skidmore. 

Beck opened the scoring for Skidmore at 14:03 of the first, slotting home a cross-ice feed from Krajnak. Krajnak collected a rebound after a blocked shot and picked out Beck for a one-timer. The Thoroughbreds doubled their lead at 2:13 of the second as Cibelli converted from the slot on a pass from Bird.
 
The Bison took of the game in the third period, outshooting Skidmore 12-6, but McDonald came up with key saves with time winding down to preserve the shutout.

Skidmore hosts Salve Regina Saturday at 4 p.m.
