Nichols falls to New England College 7-3

HENNIKER, N.H.—Junior Kerri Nadeau (Chepachet, R.I.) netted her second goal of the season as the Nichols College women's hockey team fell to New England college 7-3 in ECAC East action Friday afternoon at Lee Clement Arena. 

The Pilgrims improve to 2-16-0 (2-7-0 ECAC East) after picking up hat tricks from sophomore Kellie McLean (Hingham, Mass.) and junior Marisa Roth (Barrington, Mass.). The Bison fall to 3-14-0 (2-7-0).
  
The Pilgrims openned the scoring 8:32 into the opening period as Roth netted her first collegiate goal by putting in a centering pass off the stick of senior Alexis Fitzpatrick (Somerville, Mass.). NEC struck again just over a minute later as McLean knocked in a rebound off an initial shot by senior Kristin Dehm (Milford, Conn.) at the 10:01 mark.
 
The Bison ended their scoring drought 1:45 into the second period as Nadeau fired in a shot from just inside the blue line. She was assisted on the play by sophomore Julia Mastrototaro (Holden, Mass.). The Bison netted the equalizer at the 7:03 mark as junior Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) scored her team-high ninth goal of the season off a feed from senior Kayla Collins (Springfield, Mass.).
 
NEC regained the lead in the second period as McLean netted her second goal of the afternoon, putting in a loose puck in front of the net. The goal was assisted by Dehm and freshman Mackenzie Meegan (Phoenix, Ariz.).
 
The Pilgrims then exploded for four third-period goals, including a power-play goal by McClean and two goals by Roth. The Bison picked up one more off the stick of junior Talia Hohmann (Marina, Calif.) who was able to best junior captain Lauren Hopps (Green Bay, Wisc.). Junior Ashley Bonner (Ridgefield, Conn.) tacked on an empty-netter in the final minute to put the icing on the cake for the Pilgrims.
  
Nichols outshot NEC 46-30 on the afternoon while Hopps picked up 43 saves in the win. Junior Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded 17 saves for the Bison after coming in relief of senior Francesca Palazzo (Bernardston, Mass.), who picked up six saves in 10:01 of play.
  
Nichols travels to Castleton on Saturday for a conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m. NEC host conference foe Manhattanville on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
