Nichols falls to College of the Holy Cross, 2-0

HARRISVILLE, R.I. –  Junior Rachel Miller (Jackson, Mich.) scored her sixth goal of the season early in the first period to lift the College of the Holy Cross to a 2-0 win over Nichols College in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's East action Saturday night at Levy Rink.

Senior Kylee Sullivan (Arlington, Mass.) added an insurance marker at 6:51 of the third period as the Crusaders improved to 10-5-1 (5-2-1) on the season. Junior Krista Manzanares (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) stopped all 12 Nichols shots to improve to 5-3-0 on the season.

Nichols junior netminder Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) turned aside 36 shots as she fell to 2-6-0 on the season.

Miller opened the scoring 3:08 into the first when her shot from the left circle snuck between Gianformaggio and the left post. Junior Nicole Giannino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) picked up the lone assist on the GWG.

The Bison has a two-on-none break on the goalie late in the first period, but shots by freshman Emily Wood (Wakefield, Mass.) and senior captain Megan Gerein (Dubuque, Iowa) were turned aside.

In the third, Sullivan collected a rebound in front and beat Gianformaggio for her fifth of the season. Miller and freshman Izzy Bagi (Branford, Conn.) were credited with assists on the marker.

The Crusaders outshot the Bison 38-12 and did not score on the only power-play opportunity for either team. Junior Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) led Nichols with three shots.

The Bison host Salve Regina Monday at 6:10 p.m. The Crusaders head to Plymouth State January 24for a 6 p.m. contest.
