Bison fall to Camels 4-0

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) picked up 43 saves in Nichols College's 4-0 loss at Connecticut College Tuesday night in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Dayton Arena.

Connecticut College senior Leah Kallen (Chicago, Ill.) had two goals and assisted on a third score to lead the Camels. Michaela Igo (Sandwich, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and two assists while classmate Jane Pagano (Erie, Pa.) potted her team leading seventh goal of the season for the Camels, who enjoyed a 47-to-17 advantage on the shot chart.

The Camels put an end to their three-game losing streak, improving their record to 6-5-2 while the Bison fell 3-10.

Gianformaggio corralled 43 of the Camels 47 shots with some acrobatic moves around the cage and a refuse to lose mentality that kept the Bison in contention for much of this contest.

Rookie net-minder Katherine Chester (Mendham, N.J.) stopped all shots she faced en route to her first collegiate shutout.

Pagano opened the scoring at the 5:11 mark of the first period when she flicked in a wrist shot from the center of the blue line for the Camels. In the second period, the Camels extended their lead when Kallen tipped one in with the assist coming from Igo in the slot area. Gianformaggio made 18 saves in the middle period to keep things close for the Bison.

The Camels added two more in the third period to seal the deal.

The Bison will host Holy Cross Saturday night at 7:40 p.m. at Levy Rink. Connecticut College will travel to Colby College Friday night at 7 p.m.
