Hobart deals Bison 4-1 defeat

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Junior Joe Sposit (Cleveland, Ohio) scored his sixth goal of the season for Nichols College, which suffered a 4-1 loss to Hobart in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast men's ice hockey action Friday night at Levy Rink.

Sophomore Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) made 40 saves for the Bison, who suffered just their third loss in 13 games this season (8-3-2). Sophomore Ben Gamache (Longlac, Ontario) recorded a goal and an assist for the Statesmen (5-4-4), who outshot the Bison 44-24 on the evening.

Hobart scored two goals in the opening 1:47 of the contest to take an early 2-0 lead. Senior Tommy Fiorentino (New Hartford, N.Y.) potted his third goal of the season at 58 seconds off a feed from junior Tommaso Traversa (Torino, Italy). Less than a minute later, junior Brad McBride (Lone Tree, Colo.) sent a pass to freshman Carl Belizario (Dorval, Quebec) in the slot, and the d-man went used a backhand deke and went shelf on Larson.

Sposit cut the Bison's deficit in half at 15:10 with a power-play marker with assists going to freshman Mike Weaver (Wakefield, Mass.) and senior Josh DeLoach (Tampa, Fla.). Hobart answered with a pair of second-period goals from Gamache at 1:12 and freshman Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.) at 12:36 on the power-play to grab a 4-1 lead.

Sophomore Lino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec) recorded 23 saves to earn his fifth win of the season. Each team went 1-for-7 with the man advantage.

Nichols junior Kyle Shaprio (Ambler, Pa.) was assessed a five-minute major and a game disqualification for contact to the head midway through the third period. He will miss the Bison's contest with Morrisville State Saturday night at 7:40 p.m.

The Statesmen play at Salve Regina tomorrow at 7 p.m.
