SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior Avery Orszulak (Springfield, Mass.) scored four goals to lift the Nichols College field hockey team to a 10-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win at Western New England Saturday evening.
Orszulak also added four assists to give her 12 points in the game, which ties the Nichols single-game record, which was done on two occasions. Joslyn Larson tallied 12 points in a 10-0 win against Lasell on Sept. 10, 1999 while Kerry Sheehy performed the same feat in an 11-0 win against Framingham State on October 1, 1994. The Bison scored 10 goals for the first time since Oct. 9, 2010, when they defeated Anna Maria by an identical 10-1 score.
Sophomore Victoria Utter (Stafford Springs, Conn.) was credited with two goals while juniors Andrea Wilson (New Bedford, N.H.), Lindsay Rappazzo (Mashpee, Mass.), and Kaylee McNamara (Watertown, Mass.), along with freshman Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.), also scored for Nichols.
The Bison scored five goals in each half of play and outshot the Golden Bears 37-9. Junior Molly Melanson (Simsbury, Conn.) recorded six saves to move to 2-8 on the season.
Nichols hosts UNE on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. Western New England hosts Roger Williams Wednesday at 7 p.m.
