Box Score
WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Lindsey Rappazzo (Mashpee, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season in Nichols College's 2-1 loss at Clark (MA) University in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday night.
Freshman Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) smacked home the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute – her fifth in the last two games – as the Cougars improved to 2-1 on the season. The loss drops the Bison to 0-4.
Nichols opened the scoring at 22:50 when Rappazzo knocked in a pass form classmate Avery Orszulak (Springfield, Mass.). The assist was Orszulak's team-leading third of the season.
Clark responded before the half came to a close as Maria Manning (Manchester, N.H.) evened the score when she converted a penalty stroke at 29:18.
Things remained tied until late in the contest when Mackey banged home a rolling pass from Kiah Murphy (Westport, Mass.) with less than 10 minutes left to play for the eventual game-winner.
Both Nichols junior goalkeeper Molly Melanson (Simsbury, Conn.) and the Cougars Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) made nine saves between the pipes for their respective teams.
Nichols hosts MIT Thursday at 7 p.m. while Clark visits UMass Dartmouth next Tuesday.
