Hawks shut down Bison, 3-0

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Nichols College women's soccer team was shutout by Roger Williams University 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Hannah Noel (Adams, Mass.) served up the first scoring attempt of the day for the Hawks (12-2-1, 4-1-0 CCC), putting up a shot three minutes into the game that was stopped by Bison junior keeper Sarah Whitestone (Dalton, Mass.). Less than two minutes later, the Hawks broke through with Noel sending a cross to Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) for a shot into the left corner, giving RWU a 1-0 lead.

Kaiser nearly added another goal in the 13th minute as she sent a long shot from the right corner. Whitestone made a jumping save but couldn't hold on to the ball. The ball nearly trickled into the left corner of the goal, but rolled past the post.

In the 18th minute, Katie Lydon (Riverside, R.I.) team-leading 12th marker of the season doubled the Hawks lead. Lydon took a pass from Kaiser to the left side of the box and dribbled around a Bison defender. She was then able to drop a shot into the right side of the net.

In the 36th minute, RWU's Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine) picked up her second score of the season when she chipped a shot into the right corner off of a pass from Lydon.

RWU goalkeeper Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) did not record a save in the win. Whitestone recorded 10 saves in the contest for Nichols. Roger Williams held a 24-6 edge in shots. Sophomore Lindsey Stewart (Mashpee, Mass.) led Nichols (5-9-1, 0-5-0 CCC) with two shots.

The Bison travel to MCLA on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. contest. The Hawks host UMass Dartmouth Wednesday at 4 p.m.
