Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) stopped a game-high 32 shots for his first collegiate shutout as the Nichols College men's ice hockey team earned a 1-0 win over Salve Regina in an ECAC Northeast matchup on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Bison (11-7-0, 4-3-0 ECACNE) complete the season sweep while the Seahawks slip to 6-10-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the loop.
Following a scoreless first period, Beasley struck quickly in the middle frame with help from sophomores
Mike Schwartz (Long Beach, N.Y.) and
Joe Sposit (Cleveland, Ohio).
Larson was able to hold off a barrage of shots by the Seahawks to keep the hosts off the board, including double-digit saves in the first and third period.
Salve Regina was able to kill the final power play opportunity with 2:29 to play in the game to keep the score 1-0, but the Seahawks were unable to find their equalizer despite three shots and an extra attacker for the majority of the final two minutes of play.
Larson evened his record at 5-5 while Salve Regina senior goalie Mike McDonald (Whitby, Ontario) fell to 3-6-0 as he turned away 14 shots in the setback.
Overall, the Seahawks outshot the Bison 32-15 as Nichols went 1-for-8 on the power play and Salve Regina had five
opportunities with extra personnel.
Nichols heads to Western New England on Saturday for a 7:45 p.m. game at Smead Arena in Springfield, Mass. Salve Regina hosts Wentworth at 4:35 p.m. on Saturday.
