Tyler Beasley (Indianapolis, Ind.) notched the game-winning goal to go along with a pair of assists as the Nichols College men's ice hockey team defeated Brockport, 5-2, on Friday evening in a non-conference contest at Levy Rink. With the win, the Bison improve to 10-5-0 on the year while the Golden Eagles fall to 4-10-1.
After a scoreless first period, the visitors took a 1-0 lead :39 into the second frame as junior Brendon Rothfuss (Webster, N.Y.) knocked home a one-timer on a pass from rookie Chase Nieuwendyk (Georgetown, Ontario). Zach Kohn (Delafield, Wis.) with a rebound opportunity. Kohn buried the puck on a shot from the point to give the Bison the first lead of the night.
Beasley then sent home what proved to be the game-winner while eluding a trio of Golden Eagles as he found the bottom right of the net at 8:04 in the third. Nichols tacked on an insurance goal courtesy of Butler's second tally of the game off a dish from Beasley with aid from first-year
Paul Prescott (Oakdale, Minn.) 4:50 later.
With 4:22 remaining in the third stanza, Rothfuss capitalized on a power play chance setup by senior Mike Hayward (Toronto, Ontario). Brockport pulled its netminder with 1:06 remaining in the matchup just before sophomore
Joe Sposit (Cleveland, Ohio) took advantage of the empty net with one second left on the clock for the 5-2 victory while Jones collected his second helper of the outing.
Bison rookie backstop
Alex Larson (Madison, Ala.) turned away 32 shots en route to his fourth win (4-3-0) of the campaign. Freshman Jared Lockhurst (Caledon, Ontario) posted 41 saves in the setback as he slipped to 2-4-1.
For the game, Nichols outshot the Golden Eagles 46-34 incuding a commanding 19-8 lead in the second period.
The Bison welcome No. 3 Hobart to Levy Rink on Sunday at 4:10 p.m. Brockport ventures into Boston tomorrow to face Suffolk at 4:25 p.m.
