Jacob Rinn stopped 18 shots and classmate
Zach Hendrickson paced the team with three points – all assists – to help Nichols blank Suffolk 4-0 on Wednesday evening at Levy Rink in ECAC Northeast men's ice hockey action.
With the win, head coach Lou Izzi reached the 200 career win plateau. The 14-year head coach is now 200-146-15 overall and 114-81-12 in eight seasons with the Bison.
Nichols jumped on the board twice in the opening period. The first came with 1:06 elapsed in the game as first-year
Louie Educate sniped the puck past the goalie on the blocker side. Hendrickson and rookie
Kyle Shapiro each had an assist for the Bison.
Later in the period sophomore
Blake Bishop sent a pass to senior
Andrew Letellier who deposited the score on the low glove side of the netminder at 9:24. Hendrickson also helped to create the scoring chance.
On a power play in the second period rookie
Joe Sposit collected a pass from Educate and placed it under the crossbar for the 3-0 lead at 12:08. Senior
Wil Brown sent the initial pass to Educate.
Shapiro closed out the scoring at 1:58 in the final stanza as he captured a rebound off a shot that was taken by Hendrickson after a feed from Letellier.
Sophomore Cam Kelley collected a game-high 25 saves for the Rams.
Nichols (9-12-1, 7-4-0) entertains league-leading Curry on Saturday at 4:40 p.m. for Senior Day. Sufolk (2-19-0, 0-11-0) hosts Wentworth on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. to begin a three-game homestand.
