Men's Hoops Grounds Hawks in CCC Clash, 67-53

Sheehan, Langadas dominant in key conference matchup

Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. (Feb. 8) – Led by 28 points from sophomore Ryan Sheehan, the Nichols College men's basketball team led from start to finish in a 67-53 win over visiting Roger Williams University in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Wednesday night. Nichols rebounded from a pair of league losses to play their strongest defensive game of the year and improve to 10-12 overall and 8-7 in the CCC. Roger Williams drops its third straight game to dip to 12-10 overall and 8-7 in conference games.

Sheehan had 14 points in each half on 63.2% shooting from the field and added five rebounds. First year Matt Langadas  recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, pulling down nine on the defensive glass.

Senior center Pat Flanagan paced the Hawks with 14 points and seven rebounds, while first year Adam Cook  added nine, all on three-pointers (3-for-4).

Nichols strode out to a 12-2 lead within the opening five minutes of the game, and extended it to an 18-point margin just past the midpoint of the half. Sheehan hit his first five shot attempts of the game, including a three-pointer that followed a Craig Merrick  trey on the prior possession. Over the remainder of the half, Nichols held Roger Williams to just one basket from the floor, a Joseph Henry  jumper, and carried a 36-21 lead into the locker room.

The Hawks got as close as 14 in the opening minutes of the second half before three consecutive Sheehan buckets gave the Bison their largest lead of the game, 48-26. The lead hovered around 20 points for the rest of the game until Cook twice hit three-pointers to cut it to 16, including with 36 seconds left, setting up E.J. Bradley with a trip to the line where he sank two of three free throws.

Nichols outrebounded Roger Williams by a 39-30 margin, including a 31-25 edge on the defensive glass. The Hawks benefitted from 25 trips to the free throw line, netting 15 points at the stripe. Nichols outmaneuvered the Hawks in the paint, outscoring them 28-20.

The Bison travel to University of New England on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. CCC game. Roger Williams hosts Wentworth Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for a conference game.
