Box Score MILTON, Mass. (Feb. 29) – All four Bison seniors collected a point or amassed several saves on Wednesday evening as the Nichols men's ice hockey season came to an end on with a 7-2 defeat at Curry in the semifinal round of the ECAC Northeast tournament.
The Bison complete the 2011-12 campaign with a 12-13-2 record as senior
Jacob Rinn collected 40 saves as classmate
Zach Hendrickson scored the final goal of the game. Fellow seniors
Andrew Letellier and
Andrew Ella each pitched in with an assist.
Nichols trailed early as Mike Kavanagh teamed up with Joshua Pineiro and Payden Benning to score a power play goal at 4:08 into the matchup. The Colonels then scored 7:50 later on a slap shot by John Williams with helpers from Alex Barr and Ian DeLong. With 6:07 left in the period, DeLong struck on a 4-on-3 power play as Benning helped setup what proved to be the game-winning strike.
Benning pushed the lead to 4-0 in at 5:50 in the second period. The Bison would light the lamp at the 14:53 mark as Educate knocked home a feed from Ella. Letellier would also get credit for an assist on the play. The Colonels quickly responded at 15:29 with a score off the stick of Brad Devereaux.
Curry went on to score another two goals in the third. Benning and Connor Hendry each found the back of the net at 8:06 and 12:54, respectively. Hendrickson then found the back of the net with 2:41 left in the game as he deposited a rebound to capitalize on a 5-on-3 opportunity as he was assisted by sophomore
Blake Bishop and Educate.
Derek Mohney stopped 24 shots in the victory as the Colonels outshot the Bison 47-26.
Curry scored four times on 11 power play opportunities as the Bison capitalized on two of their six chances.
