Bison fall at Curry, 86-73

MILTON, Mass. - The Nichols College men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the 2012-13 season with an 86-73 defeat at Curry College in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both schools Wednesday night at the Student Center Gym.

Junior captain Ryan Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the Bison (3-1, 0-1 CCC) with 32 points. Sophomore Jessy Michaud (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) chipped in with 11 points while sophomore Matt Langadas (Casco, Maine) added nine points. 

Nichols held a 50-40 lead at the break behind 17 from Sheehan. After shooting 51 percent in the opening half, the Bison dipped to just 25 percent in the second half as they were outscored 46-23 over the final 20 minutes.

Curry's biggest lead of the first half (24-17) came with 11:41 on the clock after junior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) scored nine-straight points for his team. Nichols closed out the half with a 33-16 run, taking a 10-point edge (50-40) at the break. Sheehan accounted for 12 points during the run.

Sheehan scored the first bucket of the second half, stretching the Bison lead to 12 (52-40). The Colonels chipped away and eventually took the lead for good (63-62) after sophomore Antonio Jones (Boston, Mass.) converted on a layup with 9:48 remaining in regulation. Curry went on to score 23 of the game's final 34 points, including seven from junior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.).

Junior A.J. Stephens (Stamford, Conn) led the Colonels with team-highs in point (25) and rebounds (12). Jones added 23 points and three blocks while Papalambros chipped in with 19. Sedale Jones and Papalambros also pulled down nine rebounds apiece.

Sheehan also had a team-high six rebounds. 

Both teams return to CCC action on Saturday as Curry travels to Gordon for a 3:00 p.m. contest while Nichols hosts Western New England at 12:00 p.m.
