BURRILLVILLE, R.I. – Junior Lauren Glynn (Westwood, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winning tally as visiting Trinity defeated Nichols 4-2 in a non-conference women's ice hockey contest on Tuesday night at Levy Rink. With the win, the Bantams, who are receiving votes in both the USCHO.com Division III Women's Poll and the D3hockey.com Women's Top 10, improve to 2-0-1 on the year while the Bison dip to 2-5-0.
After a scoreless and penalty free opening period that saw Trinity outshoot Nichols 14-4, the Bantams raced ahead 2-0 midway through the middle frame. Freshman Shannon Farrell (Kennebunk, Maine) sent home a rebound that she corralled and fired in from the left circle with help from classmates Shelby Labe (Pine Brook, N.J.) and Elizabeth Caporale (Glastonbury, Conn.). Less than two minutes later the Bantams struck again as sophomore Lauren Fitzgerald (Milton, Mass.) tipped in a deflection that came off the stick of senior Britney Ryan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.). Senior Hillary McNamara (Milton, Mass.) also received credit for a helper on the play. Nichols closed the gap in shots as Trinity held a 14-9 edge in the second period. Trinity went 0-for-2 on the power play while the Bison went 0-for-2 with additional personnel.
Both teams would light the lamp twice in the final period of the night. Glynn put the Bantams on top 3-0 with the game winner just 3:34 into the stanza. Nichols then scored the next two goals to slice into the visitors lead. Sophomore
Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) potted her team-leading sixth seventh marker of the season off a feed from classmate
Lisa Coskren (Norwood, Mass.) who stole the puck at 8:32. Sophomore
Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) followed up with her second tally of the year as she registered a shorthanded goal with a shot that found the top corner of the net at 9:55. Freshman Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.) added an insurance goal with 6:31 left in the contest. Rookie Brooke Heron (South Salem, N.Y.) and sophomore Emily Riccio (Simsbury, Conn.) helped setup the scoring chance. The Bantams had an 11-10 edge in shots over the final 20 minutes as both squads went 0-for-2 on the power play.
Trinity junior netminder Kristen Maxwell (Nashville, Tenn.) collected 21 saves in her first appearance of the season while sophomore
