BEVERLY, Mass. – The Nichols College field hockey team suffered a 3-1 loss at Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
Kaylee McNamara (Watertown, Mass.) potted her fourth goal of the season for the Bison (7-5, 3-1 CCC), who have dropped two-straight after winning five of six. Senior Melissa Enright (York Beach, Maine) scored a pair of goals for the Gulls, who improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
Junior Stacie Teevens (Southborough, Mass.) potted her third goal of the season and the only marker of the first half 4:02 in to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead. Enright's first of the afternoon and ninth of the season at 39:49 doubled Endicott's lead.
Less than two minutes later, senior
Emily Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.) sent a pass to McNamara to bring the Bison to within a goal at 2-1 at 41:09. The assist was Widdison's team-leading 37th point of the season. Enright's second goal of the afternoon at 61:53 capped the scoring.
Nichols held a 17-16 edge in shots and a 13-10 advantage in corners. It also received a defensive save from freshman
Meghan Dombkowski (Sagaponack, N.Y.). Sophomore
Molly Melanson (Simsbury, Conn.) made six saves for the Bison while senior Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) recorded five saves.
Nichols returns to action on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. contest at the University of New England. Endicott heads to Western New England for a 7 p.m. contest on Monday.
