Box Score HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Jan. 28) – Bolstered by starting defenders senior Angela Zevnik and rookie Franny Nicholson Saint Anselm allowed 15 shots to help the Hawks defeat Nichols, 4-1, on Saturday night in ECAC East women's ice hockey action at Levy Rink. The Hawks improve to 13-6-0 overall and 8-5-0 in the conference as the Bison dip to 6-12-1 on the year and 3-8-1 in conference play.
Zevnik took aim from the point for the game's first tally at 8:14 in the opening stanza. Senior Aly Zappen sent the pass to Zevnik for the score.
The Hawks found success with 5:07 expired in the second period as senior Michelle Lacombe weaved through the defenders and wristed the shot to the blocker side.
Junior Rosemarie Giarrusso sent the pass to Aly Zappen who took aim at the net. The puck rebounded off the goalies pads that allowed senior Molly Corl to knock home the rebound at 6:38 in the second period.
Rookie Tiffany Herron sent home a rebound shot with 2:59 off the clock in the third frame. Lacombe fired the initial shot after a pass from Aly Zevnik.
Nichols' first-year 
Alyssa Bufis broke up the shutout with 7:06 left in the game. Sophomore 
Megan Gerein won the faceoff and sent the feed to Bufis at the top of the circle for the one-timer.
Saint Anselm senior goalie Amy Zappen turned away 14 shots in the win as the rookie duo of 
Rebecca Cohen and 
Tori Gianformaggio combined to make 32 stops.
Each squad had three power play chances as the Hawks capitalized on one.
Both teams are on home ice this Friday. Nichols welcomes New England College at 7:40 while Saint Anselm hosts Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m.
