Men's Hockey Falls To Curry, 6-1

MILTON, Mass. (Feb. 10) - Curry College defeated Nichols College 6-1, in men's ice hockey action on Thursday night in Milton, Mass. The Colonels improve to 12-7-3 overall and 8-1-2 in the ECAC Northeast, while the Bison fall to 11-10-1 and 5-6-0 in the ECAC Northeast.

The Colonels were the first to get on the board in the opening frame, scoring just 1:47 into the first with Curry's first of three short-handed goals. Junior Shane Geib was called for a slash at the 00:52 mark. Sophomore Casey Brugman intercepted a pass from a Nichols defender and scored unassisted. The Colonels took a 2-0 lead when sophomore Brett Kaneshiro capitalized on a power-play situation. Senior Ryan Warsofsky and junior Payden Benning were credited with the assists. Curry outshot Nichols 17-6 in the period.

Curry scored four goals in the second, including two more short-handed. Sophomore George Isham opened up the scoring five minutes into the period on an assist from junior Michael Curran. The Colonels' next two goals were on the Bison's power play. Freshman Michael Lopez scored his first of the game just 18 seconds into penalty with Brugman on the assist. Junior John Williams put Curry up, 5-0, with junior Ryan Barlock assisting his first of two on the night.

The Bison got on the board at 14:52 with their own power-play goal. Senior Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) took a slap shot from the blue line that sailed past sophomore goaltender Robert Dawson. Junior Andrew Letellier (Saco, Maine) and freshman Blake Bishop (Parker, Colo.) were on the assists, with Bishop earning a point in his first game since early December.

The Colonels' sixth and final goal came from senior Payden Benning. Benning received a pass from Barlock and one-timed the puck into the back of the net. The Colonels finished with a total of 49 shots and the Bison 28, with 20 coming on the power play.

Nichols used all three goaltenders. Sophomore Ryan Casey (Pelham, N.H.) played the opening 31:59 minutes and made 22 saves allowing four goals. Junior Jacob Rinn (Warwick, R.I.) followed with four saves and two goals allowed in just over eight minutes. Freshman Dylan Woodring (Rogue River, Ore.) played the third period, shutting out the Colonels with 17 saves. Curry's Dawson made 27 saves for the win.

Curry's next game is away on Saturday, February 12 at Salve Regina for a 7:00 p.m. start. Nichols travels to Suffolk on Saturday, February 12 also for a 7:00 p.m. game start.
