Men's Hoops Dominates Lasell, 94-83

Sheehan nets career-high in win

Box Score NEWTON, Mass. (Nov. 17) – Led by a career-high 37 points from sophomore forward Ryan Sheehan, the Nichols College men's basketball team picked up a 94-83 road win at Lasell Thursday evening in non-conference action at the Lasell Athletic Center.

As a team, the Bison shot a hot 57.1% from the floor and held onto a 24-point halftime lead en route to the most points since the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament in 2009 (99). Nichols was afforded 24 points at the charity stripe on an 77.4% effort.

Sheehan scored 18 points in the first half and finished the game 10-for-19 on the floor while hitting 15 of 18 free throws in his career-best performance. Joe Gallant and Mike Salis  each pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Bison's impressive rebounding advantage: 40-27, including a dominating 31-20 edge on the defensive glass.

First year guard Marlon Bennett  and senior forward Dominique Jean-Pierre both scored in double figures, as Bennett hit six-of-seven from the floor for 13 points in his second career game, and Jean-Pierre got eight of 10 points at the line.

The teams stayed close through the opening stanza until Nichols broke it open late on a 23-4 run to close out the half with a 50-24 lead. The Bison took advantage of an 0-for-8 three-point shooting display by the Lasers and parlayed 12 Lasell turnovers into 19 points.

Nichols led by as many as 27 by the midway point of the second half, but saw the Lasers chip it away to just nine with just over two minutes left in the game.

The Bison are back in action on November 28 when they host Fitchburg State at 7:30 p.m.
