Men's Ice Hockey Stymied by Stonehill, 2-0

Woodring makes 25 stops in season debut

Box Score HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Nov. 12) – Junior Christopher Gorovitz scored the first goal of the contest in the third period to help lead Stonehill past Nichols 2-0 in a non-conference men's ice hockey game at Levy Rink on Saturday night.

The contest would remain scoreless until 8:35 in the third period as Gorovitz shoveled in the initial tally of the game after he carried the puck into the zone following passes from senior Patrick Greene and sophomore Bill Carey. The Skyhawks added another marker at 18:17 as Greene, due to 2-on-1 pressure when he entered the zone, dished the puck to rookie Kevin Aufiero for a wrist shot to the low glove side.

For the third consecutive game Nichols maintained an advantage on shots as they outshot the Skyhawks 36-27. The Bison would have six power play chances while Stonehill ended with three.

Freshman Chris Tasiopoulos earned his first collegiate win in four tries as well as collected 36 saves for the Skyhawks.

Sophomore Dylan Woodring picks up the defeat in his season debut for the Bison. The goalie stopped 25 shots in the effort.

Nichols (0-2-1) hits the road for its ECAC Northeast opener with Salve Regina on Thursday. Faceoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Portsmouth Abbey Rink in Portsmouth, R.I. Stonehill (1-4) opens NE-10 play on Wednesday with a trip to Southern New Hampshire University for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
