Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 4) – The Mount Holyoke field hockey team scored three times in the second half to defeat host Nichols College, 4-0, in a non-conference game at Vendetti Field Tuesday evening. Mount Holyoke improves to 6-3 on the year, while Nichols dips to 5-4.
Kirsten Kilburn connected with Christine Ianni less than eight minutes into the game to put Mount Holyoke on the board. Kilburn received the ball off a corner set at the top of the circle before sending it to Ianni at the post to maneuver past Nichols goalkeeper 
Molly Melanson and drop the ball behind her.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Aurora Rougeau sent a slide pass across the front of the net from the right side to Stephanie Slysz on the left for a hard one-timer into the open cage.
Less than four minutes later Jess Fajardo corralled a loose ball in front of the net as it traveled toward the right. As she tracked it down, she followed it in just in time to sneak it past the post and Melanson for a 3-0 lead just past the 10 minute mark of the second stanza.
Kilburn capped the game's scoring with less than 10 minutes to play when she tracked down a rebound that had rolled out to the top of the circle and sent back a long shot from just inside the arc.
Melanson made 14 saves in the game, stopping eight shots in the first half while her counterpart, Katie Gibson, earned her third shutout on the season turning away one shot in the opening stanza.
The Lyons outshot the Bison, 33-5, on the night, holding their hosts without a shot on net in the second half. Mount Holyoke held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners, including an 8-2 lead in the second frame.
Nichols returns to Commonwealth Coast Conference action with a 4 p.m. game at Endicott on Thursday. Mount Holyoke hosts Babson Saturday at 1 p.m. in a NEWMAC contest.
