Field Hockey Blanks Salve Regina, 4-0

Forand nets pair of goals, Bison win third straight

Box Score MIDDLETOWN, R.I. ()ct. 22)  - Senior Krista-Jean Forand scored a pair of goals , including the game-winner, to spark the Nichols College field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Salve Regina University during a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest at Gaudet Field on Saturday night. The loss drops the Seahawks to 5-10 overall and 1-7 in the conference, while the Bison improve to 8-6 on the season and 4-3 during CCC play after winning their third straight game.

The Bison didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard, as Forand scored the game's first goal after just 1:12 of action to give Nichols a 1-0 lead. 

Nichols expanded its lead to 2-0 when junior Barbara Roy set up junior Emily Widdison in front of the box for the Bison's second goal of the opening 10 minutes.

The score remained 2-0 as the two teams went into the break. The Seahawks held a 6-5 edge in penalty corners during the opening period, while the Bison compiled an 11-3 advantage in shots.

Forand pushed the Nichols lead to 3-0 with her second goal of the contest, redirecting a pass from Roy in the 45th minute of play.

The Bison capped the scoring in the 56th minute when freshman Avery Orszulak drove into the arc and delivered a pass to senior Chelsea Correia who found the back of the box to seal the 4-0 win for the visitors.

Salve Regina freshman goalkeeper Murphy McCann did her best to keep the Seahawks in the game, making 13 saves on the night. Rookie keeper Molly Melanson earned the win turning aside three shots in 65 minutes of action before giving way to classmate Emily Mercure, who made one save in the remainder.

Both teams return to CCC action at 3:30 on Tuesday, with the Bison hosting the University of New England and the Seahawks welcoming Gordon.
