Women’s Soccer Stuns UNE in 0-0 Draw

Nichols ties the league leader

Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 1) – The Nichols College Bison and the league-leading University of New England Nor'easters played to a 0-0 double overtime draw in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer matchup on Saturday night. The result moves the Bison to 3-5-1 on the year and 1-2-1 in the conference while the Nor'easters boast a 7-1-2 record overall and 3-0-1 in the loop.

Nichols junior netminder Maureen Lynch and UNE senior goalkeeper Jess Woodworth provided their clubs with stellar 110-minute efforts. Lynch stopped eight shots on goal for the Bison including one in each overtime session. Woodnorth handled each of the four shots she faced and was called upon once in the second extra period.

Senior Chelsea Shaughnessy led Nichols with a pair of shots aimed at the back of the net. With 30 seconds left in regulation, the midfielder booted the ball that sailed just to the right of the goal. Sophomore Julie Monroe and senior Jennifer Reichert each attempted to put Nichols on the board with a shot on net.

Sophomore Katy Marshall and junior Lauren Blaisdell accounted for half of UNE's eight shots on goal. Five others would attempt to put the Nor'easters in front with a shot each including senior Katie Caron who had a one-on-one opportunity thwarted at 104:40 when Lynch made the stop to preserve the stalemate.

UNE outshot the Bison in the match 12-5 and were awarded all nine corner kicks of the contest.

Both teams return to the pitch on Tuesday. Nichols ventures to Rhode Island College for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match while UNE heads to Gordon for a 3:30 p.m. conference tilt.
