Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 8) – Junior Lauren Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the Nichols College field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over visiting Smith College Wednesday evening on Michael J. Vendetti Field. The Bison improve to 2-0 on the season while the Pioneers are 0-1 after their season opener.

Bison sophomore Barbara Roy (Springfield, Mass.) scored a goal and added an assist, and Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) and Emily Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the home team.

Smith first year Alexandra Stein scored her first collegiate goal to cut the Bison's lead in half early in the second half, but Lauren Correia fed Roy and Widdison to give the Bison back the two-goal advantage from earlier in the game.

Chelsea Correia started the scoring in the 12th minute from Roy before Lauren Correia doubled it up four minutes later and Nichols maintained the lead headed into halftime, thanks in part to an 8-4 shot advantage in the half.

Nichols starting goalkeeper Emily Cornacchio (Salem, Mass.) made three saves in the opening half before giving way to first year Amanda Broughton (Plymouth, Mass.), who stopped four shots and allowed the lone Pioneers' goal. Their counterpart, Smith sophomore Sora Harris-Vincent made three stops.

Nichols continues its homestand Saturday when it opens The Commonwealth Coast Conference action against Salve Regina University at noon. Smith College will take on Elms Saturday at the Vassar Invitational in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. at 2 p.m.
