Box Score

Junior forward Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) and senior back Amber Cottrell (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) scored in a four-minute span to lift Nichols College to a 2-1 non-conference field hockey victory over Westfield State University of Thursday evening. The Bison improve to 4-1 while Westfield is 2-2.

The Owls lit the scoreboard first on an unassisted goal by junior Jessi Gould that deflected off a Bison defender 7:35 into the game.

Chelsea Correia knotted the score with just 14 seconds left in the first half with an assist from MaryKate Frodema (Springfield, Mass.).

Cottrell scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke 3:28 into the second half. Cottrell flicked her shot into the air and it glanced off Westfield goalie Amanda McCarthy's right arm pad and into the net.

Nichols keeper Emily Cornacchio (Salem, Mass.) had no saves in the game, but McCarthy finished with seven. The Owls were outshot, 13-3, and the Bison also dominated the penalty corners, 14-1.

Nichols travels to Regis Saturday for a 10 a.m. The Commonwealth Coast Conference game.
