Women's Hoops Rolls Past Lasell, 74-34

Box Score NEWTON, Mass. (Nov. 16) – Senior forward Jessica Nelson (Providence, R.I.) scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in just 22 minutes on the floor to lead the Nichols College women's basketball team to an impressive 74-34 win at Lasell in the Bison's season opener Tuesday night.

Senior guard Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.) joined in with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Bison, who posted their largest margin of victory since a 40-point victory over New England College (87-47) on January 16th of last season.

Nichols held a 40-16 lead at halftime on 42.9% shooting, and finished the game firing at a 42% clip. Every player on the roster was on the floor for at least five minutes, including newcomers Marissa Briere (Wolcott, Conn.), Kasey Pelletier (Dunstable, Mass.), and Chelsea Rafferty (Lowell, Mass.), who all made their collegiate debut.

The Bison maintained a 55-34 advantage off the glass, led by Nelson and eight from junior Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.). The Bison dished 18 assists and commanded the game in the paint with a 30-8 scoring advantage. Kristina Lindgren (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Lena Fracassini (Bridgeport, Conn.) each had three steals as Nichols forced 19 Lasell turnovers which led to 19 points. Nichols surrendered the ball only 11 times.

Lasell's Katie Farr was the only opponent player to score in double-digits with 10 points. JoAnna Bishop had six points and six rebounds.

The Bison play host to the 2010 Worcester City Tournament this Friday and Saturday, facing WPI in the opening game Friday at 5:30. Becker will take on Worcester State immediately after at 7:30 p.m.
