Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 9) -- The Nichols College field hockey defeated Anna Maria College, 10-1, Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup. Nichols runs its TCCC win streak to five at 5-0, and improves to 9-3 on the season.
Junior Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) recorded seven points with a hat trick and an assist, while sophomore Emily Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.) added six points on a goal and four assists.
The Bison got on the board early with a deflection goal from sophomore Barbara Roy (Springfield, Mass.) off of a shot from Widdison with 33:23 left in the first half. Nichols second goal was a mirror image of their first as Chelsea Correia got a deflection goal off another Widdison shot seven minutes later. Roy scored her second goal to give Nichols a commanding 3-0 lead 13:52 into the game.
Widdison got her third assist on the Bison's fourth goal, scored by senior Eileen Clinton (Londonderry, N.H.) and later scored a goal herself. Anna Maria got on the board late in the first half as senior Emily Nugent tucked the ball into the lower left corner of the net from the center of the arc. Chelsea Correia picked up her hat trick in the first half, as Nichols went into break with a 7-1 lead.
Nichols kept steady control of the second half. They started their scoring back up when Jara Barbato (Watertown, Mass.) cashed in on her second goal of the season which was assisted from Chelsea Corriea. Eileen Clinton and MaryKate Frodema (Springfield, Mass) finished up the scoring for the Bison, who won by a final score of 10-1.
Nichols goal keeper Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass) picked up the win, making her record 5-2 on the season. Allyssa Boykin had 15 saves for Anna Maria. Emily Cornacchio (Salem, Mass.) played the second half for Nichols an d made a highlight reel save on a penalty stroke.
Nichols outshot Anna Maria 43-4 en route to their ninth win of the season, making their record 9-3 and 5-0 in TCCC play. Anna Maria dropped to 1-10, 0-5 in the TCCC. Nichols' next match-up comes against Endicott on Tuesday, October 12th at 4:00 pm. Anna Maria also plays on Tuesday against Western New England College at 4:00 pm.
