RYE, N.Y. (Jan. 9) – The Manhattanville College men's ice hockey team scored just 10 seconds into the game en route to a 5-1 victory over Nichols Saturday evening at the Playland Ice Casino. Nichols falls to 6-5-2 on the year while the Valiants improve to 12-4-0.
Victor Nordenson scored just 10 seconds into the game to give the Valiants a 1-0 lead, but Eric Cremer (Chelsea, Mich.) knotted things up a little over seven minutes later. Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, Mich.) earned his 78th career assist on the play to take over sole possession of second place on the Bison's career assists chart. Matt Lynch (Pittsfield, Mass.) was credited with the second assist.
With just over three minutes remaining in the period, Derek Serdachny put the Valiants ahead with assists from Jason Bowles and Sasha Romanenko.
Neither team found the net in the second as the Bison penalty kill held Manhattanville scoreless in three attempts and rookie netminder Ryan Casey (Pelham, N.H.) stopped all seven shots after an 18-save first period. Nichols peppered Pierre-Olivier Lemieux with 10 shots in the frame, but could not convert on two power plays.
The Valiants broke the game open in the early goings of the final period as Dillon Henningson scored from Marcus von Sydow just over two minutes into the frame and AJ Mikkelsen added a power-play tally two minutes later for a 4-1 lead. Mikkelsen assisted Arlen Marshall at the frame's midpoint to cap the scoring.
Lemieux finished with 20 saves to improve to 8-1-0, while Casey took the loss with 27 saves and four goals allowed in the opening 45 minutes before bowing out to Jacob Rinn (Warwick, R.I.), who made 11 saves in the final 15:35.
