Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 26) – The Nichols College field hockey team kept its undefeated season going with a 5-0 home The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Western New England College Saturday morning at Vendetti Field. First year Barbara Roy (Springfield, Mass.) netted her first career goal in the game, and Amber Cottrell (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) scored on a penalty stroke.

Nichols led 3-0 at halftime and added a pair in the second frame to extend its season-long win streak to nine games and improves to 3-0 in TCCC games. The Golden Bears drop to 1-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Lauren Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 10th minute, planting a pass from Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) before Roy tipped in a long pass from Emily Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.) for the two-goal lead in the 21st minute.

Cottrell's penalty stroke, the Bison's second of the season, put Nichols ahead by three just four minutes later.

Chelsea Correia swiped at a pass from Samantha Lacerra (Watertown, Mass.) for her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 43rd minute and Jensen Hume (Hampton, N.H.) capped the scoring for Nichols with her first career goal in the 67th minute.

The Bison held a 10-5 shot advantage after 35 minutes of play and held the Golden Bears without a shot in the second half thanks to outstanding defensive play from its backs, including Marie Kauker (Bellingham, Mass.) and Emily Stearns (Mansfield, Mass.).

Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) earned her fourth shutout of the season with three saves, while Lindsey Orszulak made 19 saves in the loss.

Nichols hosts cross-town rival WPI Tuesday at 7 p.m. while WNEC hosts Simmons Wednesday at 7 p.m.
