Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. (Sept. 17) – Visiting Nichols College scored a pair of goals six minutes apart midway through the first half to erase an early deficit and collect a 2-1 win over Clark University in non-conference field hockey action on Thursday evening at Granger Field.
With the win, the Bison improve to 6-0, while the Cougars dip to 2-3. After winning nine straight against Nichols, Clark has now dropped three in a row to their area rival.
Things started out well for Clark, as senior Lauren Blake found the back of the cage just 11 minutes into the game, giving the Cougars the an early 1-0 lead. That goal snapped a 207:48 minute shutout streak for Nichols goalkeeper Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) that spanned parts of four games.
The Bison tied the game less than seven minutes later on a penalty stroke from Sara Bailey (Athol, Mass.). Then, at the 24:06 mark, Lauren Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) set up her sister, Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.), for the game-winning score.
Nichols controlled the ball for extended periods of the contest, registering 19 shots, compared to just nine for the Cougars.
Forand made six saves in all to pick up the win, while Kathryn Dawsey turned back ten shots for Clark.
Nichols returns to action on Saturday when they host Endicott, while the Cougars don't return to play until September 29 with a meeting with Anna Maria.
