Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 15) – The Nichols College field hockey team improved to 5-0 on the season Thursday night with a 2-0 home victory over Mt. Holyoke College. The Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week Krista Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) made eight saves in her second consecutive shutout; it marked the third overall on the year for Nichols, which is off to its best start since 1989.
Sophomore Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) gave the home team an early advantage with her fifth goal of the season in the ninth minute, but the momentum quickly shifted in favor of the Lyons (1-1), who held control until late in the half.
Lauren Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) put the Bison ahead by two in the 28th minute with her fifth goal of the season, knocking in a rebound.
Play remained close, despite a marked penalty corner advantage for the Lyons, who had nine to the Bison's one, including a 5-0 margin in the second half.
Forand made five first-half saves and three in the final frame to earn the win, while Katie Gibson shouldered the loss with nine – five in the first and four in the second.
Nichols travels to Clark Thursday for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup before a key 1 p.m. TCCC clash with Endicott Saturday at home. Mt. Holyoke takes on host Bryn Mawr College as part of the Seven Sisters Classic Saturday at 4 p.m.
