HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Nichols College first-year forward Zach Hendrickson (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored four goals and added an assist for a five-point night as the 14th-ranked Bison handed Framingham State a 10-0 defeat in ECAC Northeast action at June Rockwell Levy Rink. Nichols improves to 19-2-0 overall, one win shy of tying the program record for wins in a season, and stands atop the ECAC Northeast with a 13-0-0 mark.
The Bison scored early and often, taking a three-goal lead before the 10-minute mark of the opening frame. Nichols carried a four-goal lead into the first intermission before adding two more in the second period and three in the third.
Sophomore Matt Roberts (Merrimac, Mass.) recorded four assists, while first-year forward Andrew Ella (Schomberg, Ont.), sophomore forward Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) and first-year forward Dan Styrna (Vancouver, British Columbia) each picked up three points with a goal and a pair of assists. In total, 12 Bison skaters recorded at least one point in the game and nine put forth multiple-point efforts.
First-year netminder Jacob Rinn (Warwick, R.I.) earned his first career shutout with 19 saves, improving to 5-0-0 on the season.
Senior Ryan Gervais (Chicago, Ill.) put Nichols on the board a 5:01 of the first when he one-timed a quick net-front pass from Ella. Senior defenseman Cole Ruwe (Pekin, Ill.) and first-year blueliner Kevin Richardson (Temecula, Calif.) passed back and forth at the blue line before feeding Munson for a power play tally and a two-goal lead at 8:52. After collecting a pass from Billy Strain (Providence, R.I.), Hendrickson faked a shot before scoring through Rams' netminder Andy Joyce's five-hole for his first career goal less than a minute later.
Ella and Gervais capped the first period scoring with goals less than 1:30 apart, with Ella beating Joyce on his stick side with a slapshot before Gervais found open space between Joyce's glove and pads from above the left circle at 18:20.
Senior forward Anthony Monte (Chicago, Ill.) potted a rebound just 1:31 into the second period to make the score 6-0 in favor of the Bison, and Hendrickson connected on a Roberts pass for the hat trick at 6:01, this time getting past replacement goaltender Terence Sullinvan.
Styrna tipped in a Monte shot from the slot at 4:58 of the third for an 8-0 lead, and Eric Cremer (Chelsea, Mich.) added to the lead at 10:22, beating Sullinvan low on his stick side after a Gervais pass from the right corner.
The Bison capped the scoring on the power play as Styrna ripped a shot that missed wide, but the puck bounced off the end boards and back out onto the stick of Hendrickson, who was crashing in on the left. The rookie slapped it into the wide open left side of the net for the power-play tally at 15:04.
Nichols finished 2-for-7 on the power play, while holding the Rams 0-for-6. The Bison outshot the Rams, 58-19.
The Bison travel to Suffolk for a 3:15 p.m. game on Saturday, February 14, before returning home to face Assumption the following evening at 8:30 p.m.
