Conn College Skates Past Women's Hockey, 8-1

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Connecticut College women's hockey team (7-10-3) cruised to an 8-1 victory against Nichols College (2-18-1) at Dayton Arena Tuesday night. Katelyn Driscoll had a goal and three assists, factoring into the first three scores of the contest, as the hosts out-shot the Bison 67-to-21 in the triumph. 

 

Senior Caroline Jeffery finished with a goal and two assists en route to a three-point night for the Camels.  Erin Davey and Farrell Thayer tallied two goals apiece in the offensive uprising.

 

Sophomores Abby Hine and Brooke Davis each contributed with a goal and an assist. Courtney Smith and Kourtney Brim had two assists apiece for Connecticut College.

 

Allison Peters (Westford, Mass.) accounted for the Bison goal in the third period. Sydney Gilbert (Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) assisted on the score.

 

The Camels jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 3:19 into the game. Erin Davey collected a rebound of a Driscoll shot off the back wall and stuffed it in for her 11th score of the season. Abby Hine made it a 2-0 game with eight minutes remaining in the first, potting her third goal of the season with assists coming from Jeffery and Driscoll.

 

With 2:27 remaining in the opening period, Driscoll went top-shelf from the slot for her second score of the season and the Camels carried the 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

 

The Camels erupted with four second period goals. Jeffery scored 1:26 into the middle period. Midway through the frame, Smith set up Davey with a nifty feed, hitting the junior forward inside the right circle for her 12th goal of the season to make it a 5-0 score. Farrell Thayer scored the next two goals from the same spot on the ice at the left point and the Camels enjoyed a 7-0 advantage after two periods of play.

 

The Bison finally broke through with 13:51 remaining. Peters capitalized on a two-woman advantage to get the visitors on the scoreboard. Brooke Davis closed out the scoring with her first collegiate marker at 16:26 of the third period for the hosts.

 

Connecticut College senior net-minder Lauren Mellen made three saves in a period of play.  Sophomore Robin Edwards stopped 17 shots in the final two periods of regulation.

 

Nichols College freshman Ashley Tolman (Bedford, Mass.) stopped 46 shots in two periods of work. Christine Mazza (Dedham, Mass.) had 13 saves in the third period of action.

 

The Bison are back in action at Southern Maine Friday in a 7 p.m. game.
