MILTON, Mass. (Dec. 5) – The 12th-ranked Curry College men's hockey team scored five unanswered goals to defeat Nichols, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in an ECAC Northeast game. First year forward Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis.) scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season for the Bison, who even their record at 4-4-1 (1-3-0 ECACNE) after their third-straight loss. Curry remains unbeaten at 7-0-1 (3-0-1 ECACNE).
Kohn put the Bison on the board at 11:33 of the first, picking up a power-play goal with assists from Dustin Timm (Woodland, Calif.) and Kevin Richardson (Temecula, Calif.), but Curry responded with a pair of goals less than a minute apart before the end of the frame to hold a 2-1 lead after one. John Williams scored at the 13-minute mark and Sean Sylvester tallied the eventual game-winner 42 seconds later.
Nichols netminder Ryan Casey (Pelham, N.H.) stopped 13 shots in the first and 14 in the second, but the Colonels potted a pair to extend their lead to 4-1 on goals from Josh Kamrass and Payden Benning.
Benning added a power-play goal at 6:18 of the third before the teams combined for seven penalties. Nichols couldn't convert on two man-up chances, and held the Colonels scoreless in their final three power plays.
Casey finished the night with 37 saves, while Steven Jakiel earned the win for Curry with 16 saves.
Nichols closes out the first half of the season with 7 p.m. game at Franklin Pierce on Wednesday, December 9th.
