Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. (Dec. 11) – The Nichols College women's ice hockey team suffered a 6-0 loss to Saint Anselm Friday evening in an ECAC Women's East game at Sullivan Arena. The Bison (1-6-1, 1-5-1 ECAC) return to home ice on Saturday after completing a six-game road trip to host New England College at 3:30 p.m.
Sophomore netminder Christine Mazza (Dedham, Mass.) made 21 saves over the final period and a half, allowing one goal before holding the Hawks (7-2-1, 6-2-1 ECAC) scoreless in the final frame with 16 stops.
Rosemarie Giarrusso had two goals and an assist for Saint Anselm, which led, 3-0, after the first period with three power-play goals. Angela Zevnik scored 3:06 into the opening frame for the eventual game-winner.
Aly Zappen and Kathryn Picarello each had a goal and an assist, with Zappen capping the Hawks' three-goal second period at the 13:18 mark.
Melissa Mansfield (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) took the loss for the Bison with five goals allowed on 25 shots in the first 30:31. Meghan Grant stopped all 11 Nichols shots to improve to 2-0 for the Hawks.
Saint Anselm scored three power-play goals in four chances, the first allowed by the Bison since November 21st. Nichols finished 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
Nichols wraps up the first half of the season Saturday at home against New England College at 3:30 p.m.
