Men's Hockey Falls to Brockport in Skidmore Tourney Title Game, 6-3

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Nichols College men's ice hockey team fell to Brockport, 6-3, in the championship game of the Skidmore Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. Junior forward Will Munson (Corona, Calif.) had a goal and an assist in the game, and was named to the all-tournament team.

 

Host Skidmore beat the University of New England 5-2, in the consolation game

 

Brockport (4-5) took advantage of a Nichols (4-2-1) major penalty in the first period to score three power-play goals on the way to the 6-3 win.

 

The Golden Eagles led 5-0 before Munson scored at 9:57 of the second from Zach Kohn (Hartland, Wis.) and Andrew Ella (Schomberg, Ontario).

 

The Bison cut the Golden Eagles' lead in half in the third period on goals from Zach Hendrickson (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Kohn.

 

For Brockport, Tom Galiani had two goals and an assist, James Cody had a goal and three assists and tournament MVP Sean O'Malley had a goal.

 

Joining O'Malley and Munson on the All-Tournament team were Galiani and Golden Eagle goalie Todd Sheridan, Skidmore defenseman Nick Dupuis, and UNE defenseman Jonathan Grandinetti.

 

First year Ryan Casey (Pelham, N.H.) took the loss with five goals allowed and 15 saves in a period and a half of action before giving way to Mike Davis (Newport, Mich.), who allowed one goal on nine shots through the remainder of the second. Jacob Rinn (Warwick, R.I.) stopped all nine shots in the final frame.

 

The Bison return to ECAC Northeast action on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. home game against unbeaten Wentworth (5-0-1).
