Field Hockey Snaps Skid, Downs Gordon, 2-1

WENHAM, Mass. (Oct. 24) -- The Nichols College field hockey team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory at Gordon Saturday afternoon in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference finale for both teams. Nichols, which is currently tied for first place with Endicott at 7-1, awaits the official TCCC Championship Tournament pairings, which will be announced on Monday, October 26th. Nichols stands at 14-3 overall, while Gordon falls to 4-13 on the season, and ends conference play with a 3-5 mark. 

 

After a scoreless first half, the Bison broke through in the second half on a goal by Emily Widdison (Greenfield, Mass.), assisted by Eileen Clinton (Londonderry, N.H.).  Just over two minutes later, Samantha Neverett tied the match for Gordon on a pass from Veronica Pierce.

 

With the match knotted a 1-1, Widdison returned the favor to Clinton, who came up with the game-winner with just over 15 minutes to play. 

 

Nichols goaltender Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) posted four saves in the victory, while Gordon's Alicia L'Heureux had five stops. 

 

Gordon will play a non-conference game with Connecticut College at 4:30pm on Tuesday.  Nichols will travel to take on Worcester State at 7pm on Wednesday. The opening round of the TCCC Championship Tournament starts on Saturday, October 31, with the top two teams receiving byes to the second round.
