Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's basketball scored a season-high 61 first-half points and finished with a 100-76 win over visiting Nichols College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
Shooting nearly 65% from the floor in the first half, the Seahawks (7-8; 3-1 TCCC) trailed 9-8 before sophomore forward Dan Royce ignited a 13-0 run with his fourth basket of the game at 16:26. Royce and sophomore guard Windell Hinkson were perfect in the first half, combining for 11-for-11 from the floor while scoring 12 and 15 points, respectively.
Hinkson led all players with 27 points, equaling a career-high which he set two weeks ago. He finished 9-for-10 including making all five 3-pointers while draining all four free throws. Royce finished with 19 points.
Bison senior guard Jeff Lindgren (Sturbridge, Mass.) led his team with 19 points, including five three-pointers. Also scoring in double digits for the Bison were junior guard Chris Paquin (Barre, Mass.), who scored 12 to go with five rebounds, and senior forward John Costello (Tolland, Conn.), who had five boards along with 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the field to go with five boards. Sophomore forward Chris Smith (Moosup, Conn.) came off the bench to record a game-high 10 rebounds.
The league's leading scorer, Salve Regina senior guard Justin Woodworth scored 15 points in a season-low 27 minutes. Senior Jabreche Boyd also reached double figures with 10 points. Senior Joe DeSantis had a game-high six assists.
The Bison outrebounded their hosts, 27-19, in the second half, producing 16 second-chance points, but were on the short side of a 39-38 rebounding margin for the night.
Nichols (7-9; 2-2 TCCC) hosts Colby-Sawyer on Saturday (3 p.m.) while Salve Regina travels to Springfield, Mass., for a TCCC contest with Western New England (3 p.m.).
