Field Hockey Drops 2OT Thriller at MIT, 3-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) field hockey team defeated Nichols College, 3-2, in double overtime Tuesday evening at Jack Barry Field. The Bison, led by a goal and an assist from goals from first-year player Lauren Correia (Seekonk, Mass.), fall to 3-3 on the season.

MIT (4-5) took a 1-0 lead at 23:15, but Correia knocked in her first career goal three minutes later to knot the game.

Ann Teyura responded for MIT at 29:23 when she put in a corner from Ekavali Mishra, and the 2-1 lead held until Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) connected off a corner stop by Lauren Correia.at 46:30 to tie the game at 2-2.

MIT held a 7-5 lead in shots in the first overtime before Jessica Oleinik potted her 10th goal of the season at 96:26 for the win. She was assisted by Nirupama Yechoor.

MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, Mass.) shouldered the loss with six saves, while Keri Dixon made five saves in the win.

Nichols is back in action on Thursday in a 7 p.m. game against Castleton State.
