Box Score

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Senior Brittany Case (Cambridge, N.Y.) recorded the match-winning goal with just under two minutes remaining in regulation to boost the Nichols College field hockey team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Mount Holyoke College Tuesday evening at the Mount Holyoke Turf Field.

Nichols found the win column despite overwhelming disadvantages in both shots (26-8) and penalty corners (14-6), and received an outstanding performance from junior goalkeeper MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, Mass.), who made 14 saves en route to her second victory of the season.

Junior forward Sara Bailey (Athol, Mass.) used a feed from Case to score the game's first goal just 4:17 into the contest.

Mount Holyoke responded in the 33rd minute, when senior midfielder Anne Doton took advantage of a penalty stroke opportunity to knot things up at 1-1.

The teams were still tied up until Case found the cage for what proved to be the winner with just 1:48 remaining in the second half. Sophomore midfielder MaryKate Frodema (Springfield, Mass.) earned the assist on the goal, which came off of a penalty corner set. It was the lone shot of the second half for the Bison.

Senior Allie Walsh got the start in goal for the Lyons. She made three saves before being relieved by first year Katie Gibson, who played the final 39:10.

Nichols (2-2, 1-0 TCCC) returns home to Vendetti Field for a 1 p.m. game against Clark on Saturday.
