Six Earn All-Conference Recognition for Nichols Softball

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The 2008 All-TCCC (The Commonwealth Coast Conference) Softball Team was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye and a total of six Nichols' student-athletes received recognition. Senior third baseman Tracy Cullity (Manchester, N.H.) earned First Team All-TCCC honors while freshman outfielder Shaleese Young (Salt Lake City, Utah) was named Second Team All-TCCC. Junior leftfielder Christina Hebert (Johnston, R.I.), sophomore catcher Lauren Lombardo (Wolcott, Conn.), sophomore first baseman Valeri Calcagni (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and sophomore second baseman Loren Rozanski (Plainville, Conn.) all received Honorable Mentions as well.

Cullity tied for the team lead with 21 RBI during the regular season, including a team-best 18 in conference play. She also hit .318 in TCCC games with 21 hits, four doubles and 13 runs scored.

Young hit .329 in conference play with 24 hits, which ranked second on the team, and a team-high 27 runs scored. Her 14 RBI in TCCC games were tied for third on the team. Overall, Young hit .324 on the season and ranked third in the conference with 36 runs scored. In addition, her 17 stolen bases were fifth overall in the conference.

Hebert led Nichols with a .368 average in conference play with 21 hits, 11 RBI and nine runs scored. Overall, she hit .389 on the year and ranked fifth on the team with 19 RBI. Her 28 hits also ranked fourth for Nichols.

Lombardo hit .318 in conference games with 21 hits, 15 RBI and 15 runs scored. Her four homeruns in conference play and five in all games led Nichols. Overall, Lombardo ranked third on the team with 19 runs scored and tied for the team lead in RBI with 21.

Calcagni hit .340 in TCCC play while 17 hits, 14 RBI and seven runs scored. Overall, she averaged .321 at the plate with 26 hits and 13 runs scored while her 21 RBI were tied for the team lead.

Rozanski ranked second for Nichols with a .342 average, 25 hits and 19 runs scored in conference games. Overall, she hit .312 on the year and ranked second with 35 hits. Rozanski also finished second with 23 runs scored and sixth with 17 RBI.

Second-seeded Nichols will host the winner of the Salve Regina/Western New England match-up today in its first action of the 2008 TCCC Tournament.
