Strong Second Half Leads Colby-Sawyer Past Nichols, 17-7

DUDLEY, Mass.- Colby-Sawyer out-scored Nichols 11-3 in the second half to earn a 17-7 win in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday at Vendetti Field. Junior Allicia Murphy (North Bennington, Vt.) led the Chargers with five goals, including four in the second half, while senior Tara Stewart (Londonderry, N.H.) added four. Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference while the Bison drop to 2-5, including a 1-5 mark in TCCC action.

 

The Chargers rolled out to a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Bison stormed back as senior Stephanie Tenczar (West Springfield, Mass.) tied the game at 3-3 by the 13:29 mark. Colby-Sawyer posted back-to-back goals within 12 seconds of each other to take a 5-3 lead with 11:03 left to play in the half.

 

Junior Jessica Porter (Melrose, Mass.) netted her first goal 25 seconds later to make it a 5-4 game but Murphy's goal at the 10:04 mark gave the Chargers a 6-4 lead heading into halftime.

 

Colby-Sawyer went on the attack, scoring five goals in the first 12 minutes of the half to break the game open, 11-4. Tenczar's third goal of the game stopped the drought for Nichols but it was too little too late as the Chargers out-scored the Bison 6-2 the rest of the way.

 

Sophomore Elaina Kennedy (Sunderland, Mass.) chipped in with three goals for Colby-Sawyer while senior Lisa Giordano (Londonderry, N.H.) added two. Tenczar led Nichols with her three goals and one assist while Porter added two goals and an assist.

 

Nichols will continue action this Thursday at home versus Pine Manor while Colby-Sawyer will travel to Castleton State.
