WORCESTER, Mass.- Junior Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) scored four goals and had an assist to lead the Clark University men's lacrosse team to an 11-2 non-conference victory over Nichols College on Thursday night at Granger Field. Winners of two straight, Clark improves to 3-5 overall. Nichols remains winless with an 0-8 mark.
Sophomore Garrett McAdam (Portland, Me.) added three goals, while senior Andrew Webber (Allendale, N.J.) finished with two goals for Clark. Sophomore J.C. Tsagarakis (Stonington, Conn.) and freshman Eugene Arsenault (South Portland, Me.) added single goals in the win. It was Tsagarakis's first goal of the season.
Clark scored four unanswered goals in the first two periods to take a 4-0 halftime lead. Arsenault got the Cougars on the board with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter and McAdam made it 2-0 just 2:04 later. Roche tallied a pair of unassisted goals just 1:24 apart in the second period to close out the half.
Nichols scored in the opening minutes of the third period when Lucas Wilson (Falmouth, Mass.) took a pass from Peter Smyth (Bradford, Mass.) for his fourth goal of the season. Clark went on to outscore the Bison, 7-1, in the final two frames to secure the victory. Freshman Brian Gattie (Plainfield, Mass.) scored Nichols' second goal.
Clark held a 33-16 shot advantage in the game. Junior Tyler Campbell (Portland, Ore.) had seven saves in goal before being relieved by Jon Gendron (South Portland, Me.) (0 saves). Freshman Austin Healy (Westford, Mass.) had a busy day in goal making 11 saves.
Clark will host Springfield College on Saturday (1 p.m.). Nichols will play at Salve Regina that same day (1 p.m.).
