The Nichols baseball team split its doubleheader at Anna Maria on Wednesday in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action. After scoring in double digits in the first game and winning 10-3, the Amcats scored four runs in the night cap and Nichols capitalized in dramatic fashion by scoring six runs in the top of the seventh to earn a 6-4 victory. Nichols is now 8-24 overall and remains tied with Anna Maria with a 6-14 mark in TCCC play.

In the first game, Anna Maria's Nick O'Keefe (Taunton, MA) improved his record to 2-2 with the win while pitching a complete game that included giving up one earned run on only four hits and striking out five. Nichols freshman Christopher Nemeskal (Swampscott, MA) received the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season, giving up seven of the ten runs scored.

Jeff Lander (Gloucester, MA) led Anna Maria offensively in the first game by going 2-4 with two runs scored and four RBI, with three coming off a monster homerun to center field in the bottom of the sixth.

The six, seven, and eight hitters got all four hits for Nichols with senior Andrew Besegai (Plymouth, MA) leading the way with a pair of hits, a run scored and a run driven in.

In the second game both bullpens got the decisions, with Brian Richard (Auburn, MA) falling on the short end receiving the loss and falling to 1-6 after giving up four runs on four hits in 1/3 of an inning. Thomas Bozek (Westfield, MA) got the win after coming in the game in the fifth inning and pitching 1 and 2/3 innings strong, only giving up one run.

Things were looking good for Anna Maria for almost the whole game, scoring one run in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth and holding that 4-0 led until the top of the seventh. That was when Nichols battled back by scoring six runs. Sophomore Alexander Montalto's (Wilmington, MA) drove in two runs as he finished the game with three hits and one run scored.

With today's split Nichols falls out of the playoff race and will wrap-up its season this Saturday at home versus Wentworth.
