Women's Lacrosse Falls to Gordon, 14-2

DUDLEY, Mass.-  
The Nichols women's lacrosse team fell to Gordon, 14-2, on Saturday at Vendetti Field in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action. The Fighting Scots improve to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference while the Bison drop to 4-9 overall and 1-7 in TCCC action. Gordon had a well-balanced attack as six players recorded two goals in the win.

The Fighting Scots scored five goals in the opening ten minutes of the game to take control of the game early. Senior Amber Whalen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored two of the goals.

Junior Jessica Porter (Melrose, Mass.) scored her first of two goals at the 13:20 mark to cut Gordon's lead to four, 5-1. Following a goal by sophomore Dana Peterson (West Labanon, N.H.), Porter struck again with 3:46 left to make it a four-goal game once again, 6-2, at halftime. Junior Ashley Bell (Mansfield, Mass.) assisted on Porter's second goal.

Gordon's defense shutout the Bison in the second half as its offense tacked on eight goals for a 14-2 final. Seven different players scored the Fighting Scots eight goals in the half,

Peterson, Whalen, junior Dani Zorn (Mercer Island, Wash.), freshman Anne Taylor (Arden Hills, Minn.), sophomore Maggie Roth (Saco, Maine) and senior MaryRamsey Snell (Hollis, Mass.) all scored two goals for Gordon. Also scoring were sophomores Michaela Woods (Medford, Mass.) and Molly Lawry (Iowa City, Iowa).

Sophomore MaryKate Bednarz (Springfield, Mass.) recorded nine saves in the loss. Gordon's Chyanne Wilson (Pearl River, N.Y.) posted seven saves.

Prior to the game, Nichols honored its four seniors-Erica Adams (Weymouth, Mass.), Meghan McManus (Northboro, Mass.), Jackie Henderson (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Stephanie Tenczar (West Springfield, Mass.).

In her first season of lacrosse, McManus scored one goal this season and assisted on another for two points in 12 games. During her freshman season in 2005, Adams set the school single season mark for saves with 200 in 14 games. Eventually becoming a midfielder for the Bison, she has scored ten goals and has assisted on three others for 13 career points in 45 total games.

Henderson has played in 53 career games and has racked up 61 goals, which ranks fifth all-time at Nichols. Her 22 career assists ranks first all-time while her 83 career points are fourth in school history. This season she has scored a career-best 21 goals to go along with eight assists for 29 points.

Tenczar has played in 54 career games, scoring a school record 130 goals along with 21 assists for an all-time record of 151 points. This season, she has scored a career-best 40 goals, which is the third-highest mark in school history.

Nichols will continue conference action this Tuesday when it hosts Roger Williams at 7 p.m. Gordon will host Curry that same night.
